Symptoms

Adviser can report on the Homepage that Outlook is not installed, even though it definitely is installed on the user's machine. This results in not being able to distribute documents via email.

Cause

This is generally due to one of two things:

  1. User Account Control (UAC)being set too high. If the user lowers this setting, it may allow iAdviser to be able to recognise and communicate with Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Outlook has not installed properly or an update has corrupted the Primary Interop Assembly (PIA) which allows external programs such as iAdviser to talk to Outlook. This most commonly occurs when there is more than one Office installation on a machine (e.g. Office 2013 and Office 2016)

Resolution

  1. UAC Settings
    1. Open the Control Panel (icons view) and select User Accounts.
    2. Click on the Change User Account Control settings link.
    3. If prompted by UAC, click on Yes to continue.
    4. In the User Account Control settings, move the slider to the bottom (Never Notify).
    5. If prompted by UAC, click on Yes to continue.
    6. Log out and back into the iaAnyware software. If the problem continues, go back to the UAC settings and change the slider back to it's original position.

PLEASE NOTE: If this does not work, please reset the UAC Settings to their original position.

  2. Repair Office
    1. Open up the Control Panel on your PC (and show All Control Panel items, if necessary) and click on Programs, then Programs and Features.
    2. Find Microsoft Office (YEAR) in the list and highlight it. (Sometimes this can show as Microsoft Office 365).
    3. Click Change from the top of the program list.
    4. Select Repair then follow the prompts.

Further Action

If situation continues, you may need to ask an IT person to manually resintall the PIA for Office. This can be done by removing the feature from Office, shutting down the PC then readding the feature.
