General Information

Occasionally users will experience 'slowness' within iAdviser, such as client searches or opening and closing policies.

As in internet application, there can be many areas that can effect performance. iaAnyware would like to remind users that it our software is heavily reliant on a good, stable internet connection.

Network traffic (local and on the internet) can be seen as basically the same as driving to work – there can be extra traffic on the road, roadwork, accidents and / or detours that effect the time it takes to get to your destination, but you can’t see any of this from your driveway.

In the same way that different things can affect the flow of traffic, there are many different things that can effect system performance.

If Helpdesk is experiencing similar issues

If there is an issue with iaAnyware, it effects every single iaAnyware user.

Unfortunately with IT as with everything, sometimes things can go wrong, and as such iaAnyware monitors server activity and co-ordinates with Helpdesk to try and ensure that performance is as fast as possible.

If Helpdesk is experiencing the same performance issues you are, it is likely an iaAnyware issue and one we address as a priority and are already likely working on correcting.

iaAnyware will co-ordinate with Helpdesk to correct the situation. Await further correspondence from Helpdesk.

If Helpdesk cannot confirm similar issues

The Helpdesk will ask you for some information on your PC and possibly your network to attempt to offer advice on what may be happening.

There are some fairly common things that hvae been found in the past however that may be of some assistance.

Internet Caching hiding a slow / problem connection.

A lot of users open their web browser, and when their homepage comes up almost immediately assume their internet connection is running fine.

Every time you go to a webpage, the page saves large parts of the site to your hard drive, so the next time you go to the site it loads from your computer directly – meaning you have not even tried the internet for your test.

A good test for this is to go to a webpage you don’t normally go to and see how long it takes to load (e.g. a computer games site with a lot of different content such as www.blizzard.com – the makers of World of Warcraft).

You will notice this takes a longer than sites you normally go to, and gives a truer indication of your internet performance. Don’t forget to try a different site each time though, or you will fall into the same trap!

Wireless Networks.

Wi-Fi is a very handy convenient method to connect to a network, but most wireless networks run at the 2.4GHz range (even the 5GHz ones use both frequencies at once and don’t always spell this out).

That sounds fine and technical, but in reality almost EVERYTHING uses the 2.4GHz frequency – other network devices cordless phones, televisions, microwaves and fridges interfere with this frequency constantly.

One of the easiest tests is to plug your computer in via an Ethernet connection (wired network) and see if you have the same issues.

If the trouble disappears, there is an issue with the wireless network an IT consultant will need to correct for you.

If the trouble continues there is possibly some kind of network congestion (which can include the internet but is not exclusively an internet issue) and an IT person may still be required to diagnose and troubleshoot.

Firewall and Anti-virus

Generally speaking, if the application is being blocked by Anti-virus or Firewall then it simply won’t work. There is a middle ground where it will begin to let the application work, then deny a response if it decides it doesn’t know what the response will do.

Even if it lets iAdviser talk to the cloud, it still slows down the process while it keeps an eye on the situation.

While our application is generally compatible with all major single user anti-virus and firewall vendors, the bottom line is there are times where the application will simply decide to block iaAnyware – this is the same for many applications, but most do not rely so heavily on an internet connection.

Please ensure your Firewall is correctly configured optimal network traffic.
