File Already Exists

Symptoms

When attempting to save a file in document management, you get an error stating that the 'file exists'.

Cause

When uploading to document management, a temporary compressed (zip) file is created.

Sometimes a previous temporary file has not deleted when saved with the same randomly generated name, and the system is trying to create the same filename.

It is important to note that these temporary files are not placed only by iaAnyware, but every Windows function. This is why clearing out temporary files is highly recommended on a regular basis.

Resolution

Empty your local temporary files by following these steps:

  1. Right click on you c: drive in Windows Explorer and select 'Properties'.
  2. Click 'Disk Cleanup'.
  3. Let Windows analyse your drive. On the list that appears, make sure that 'Temporary Files' is selected. DO NOT Select Temporary Internet Files - this is a different directory.
  4. If you are unsure what any other option is, make sure it is unticked - it is fine to only do one section at a time.
  5. Click OK.
